PMC is Precious Metal Clay, a mixture of fine silver particles with water and an organic binder to give a clay-like substance. It is produced by Mitsubishi Materials in Japan and has been available for about 10 years in the United States. PMC can be cold formed into a variety of shapes, stamped, textured, cut, extruded and generally treated like clay. When dry, it is finished by a variety of techniques such as sanding, burnishing, carving and complex shapes can be dry constructed. After firing away the binder and sintering, it is 99.9% fine silver and can be treated as metal. (Soldered, sawed, drilled, polished, filed, riveted and enamelled.)
